Sale of the fuet
Question
What are the specific legal requirements and regulations for importing and selling food products, such as dried Spanish sausage, in your country for business-to-consumer (B2C) purposes?
Answer
Please find below the reply of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Slovak Republic.
Considering your question, it is not clear, whether your inquiry concerns the sale only to the final consumer (B2C) or the import of traditional dried Spanish sausages (fuet). As regards the import, it is necessary to comply with the legislation depending on the type of the foodstuff. It is necessary to distinguish whether the foodstuff is subject to veterinary inspection or not.
Specifically in case of sale of dried sausages, it is necessary to observe the conditions stipulated by the Decree of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Slovak Republic No 83/2016 (including Annex I). The Decree regulates the requirements for the production, handling and placing of meat products on the market. Art. 3 specifies the requirements for meat products, and the Art. 5 specifies the requirements for placing the meat product on the market.
